Discover the 15 plaster models that tell the story of Allward’s creative process in creating the Canadian National Vimy Memorial.
Located on Vimy Ridge in the commune of Givenchy-en-Gohelle, France, the Canadian National Vimy Memorial is Canada's largest memorial to the fallen of the First World War. The monument, which took 15 years to build, was designed by Canadian sculptor Walter S. Allward, and remains an important Canadian work of art. The artist used life-size models to create the sculptures that are positioned on the Vimy Memorial, and our project aims to explore his work and its place in Canadian history and art through these maquettes.

The collection of sculptures are scanned into 3D models, allowing you to explore at your own pace all its intricate details and craftsmanship.
